JIEYI's Works in Theatre

Jenny was the Assistant Director and dramaturgy intern for Hero Theatre's summer 2023 production "Nothing, Nothing", written by Amina Henry, and directed by Elisa Bocanegra;
The production was listed as one of the top recommended events to attend by LA Times;
"Nothing, Nothing" also received 2023 LA Theatre Bites Best Original LA Show Award.

Jenny was the Director of "Something Rotten!", a broadway musical by John O'Farrell and Karey Kirkpatrick in Colgate University;
The production was Jenny's Honors Thesis in Theatre; it was also in collaboration with the student-run theatre group Masque and Triangles as the annual musical;
The performances gained around 400 audiences in total, and was very well-received among Colgate students, staff and locals as M&T's first comeback show after COVID.

Jenny was the Director of "WOYZECK: The Immersive Experience" as part of the 2023 Theatre Senior Seminar;
The original text "Woyzeck" was written by George Büchner, and was rearranged by Diego Abanto Ibargüen, a fellow student in the Senior Seminar, as the script for the performance;
The show was one of the very few entirely immersive theatre productions at Colgate University in the past decade.

Jenny was the Director of "Salomé", written by Oscar Wilde, as her Advanced Directing project in 2022;
The performance was a shorter version of the original play, as Jenny adapted the text into a play in one act;
Jenny's version of the play depicts a modern version of the biblical story, where John the Baptist is depicted as an imprisoned psychiatric patient who's seen as a threat to the supreme ruler, Herod;
The objective behind the modern adaptation was specifically tailored for modern audience to understand the story and its message while the text stays the same.

Jenny was the Director of "The Algorithm", a play in one act written by Gabrielle Smythe, a fellow student in Advanced Playwriting;
The play takes place in the future, where each person can find their "ideal partner" through the algorithm, and the protagonist in on her way to meet her algorithmic-selected partner and accidentally meets the love of her life on the bus;
"The Algorithm" was Jenny's very first complete directing project.
